DStv packages and prices versus Canal+

Canal+ is in the middle of a deal to buy DStv owner MultiChoice. Here’s how its pay-TV packages compare to DStv.

Where DStv focuses on sports, local content, and a selection of international blockbusters, Canal+ subscriptions aggregate a handful of channels with various streaming providers.

Not only do Canal+ subscribers get premium content from the French broadcaster, they can also get access to Netflix, Apple TV+, and HBO Max, all in one subscription. DStv, on the other hand, has five streaming packages: Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access. The more movie- and series-oriented packages are Canal+ Cine Series and Cine Series Essential, both of which cost R589.Both include Apple TV+, HBO Max Standard, Paramount+ Standard, OCS, and Netflix Standard subscription.

For R1,267, customers get access to all Canal+ entertainment channels as well as all additional sports channels. When comparing the packages from both broadcasters, Canal+ is definitely more tailored to the on-demand streaming audience, offering a wide selection of platforms and channels to choose from.
