The motoring experts at the RAC have issued a warning to drivers ahead of this week's wintry weather

Motorists are being urged to prepare for the cold weather that has been creeping in with winter's arrival. Parts of Scotland are expected to be hit with snow and ice in the coming days, which could be an issue for drivers.

Car owners should also consider making regular checks to reduce the risk of becoming stranded at the roadside. The guidance has been issued by the motoring and breakdown experts at the RAC. "Drivers with older batteries in their cars might also wish to give their vehicle a 20-minute drive before colder conditions arrive to ensure the battery can cope with sub-zero temperatures. It’s also worth having a fully-charged mobile phone and carrying a blanket in case of a breakdown to keep warm."
