Residents have called for measures to be put in place
People living on a residential street in Nottinghamshire have called for measures to be put in place to combat speeding. Neighbours in Arno Vale Road in Woodthorpe say motorists sometimes travel at up to 60mph down the 30mph limit street, which has a school.
Ken and Jacqueline Wood, who have lived on the road for more than 30 years, said speed cameras should be installed. "People speed down here a lot, especially at night," said Mr Wood, 69. "We can hear them coming up the road. We've complained to the county council. We had speed bumps at one stage.""Something really needs to be done, it should be 20mph all the way down. There should definitely be cameras down here." Mrs Wood added: "When we come out our drives the speeding makes it difficult."
A 56-year-old man, who asked not to be named, said: "There are people speeding up and down here all the time, at day and night, some going up to 60mph. Over the last 10 years there have been about four or five accidents. "You get a lot of kids driving pretty fast, but it's people from all walks of life." It's a through road for traffic, there's a lot of heavy goods vehicles. If we had cameras then drivers would be more aware, plus the road surface is not the greatest."
