No injuries reported in crash, but driver faces impaired and possession charges, as well as a charge for failing to ensure the child was properly secured in the vehicle
A driver who was in a single-vehicle crash this past weekend while travelling with an improperly secured toddler in the car has been charged with impaired driving and possession of controlled substances.
On Jan. 21 at around 5:45 p.m., Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police officers were dispated to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17. Officers report not only finding an impaired person in the driver’s seat, they also found a toddler in the care who was not properly strapped in.“It was determined that the driver was impaired and was arrested for impaired driving. The driver was then transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing,” police said.
“It was found that the driver was a suspended driver and a small amount of drugs, suspected to be fentanyl and methamphetamine, was located inside the vehicle.”The person was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 15 in Sudbury. The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
