Police say a woman was turning onto the freeway from South Jackson Avenue when she hit a man in a crosswalk.
SAN JOSE — A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Monday morning near an Interstate 680 on-ramp in East San Jose, according to police.
The collision was reported just after 7 a.m. on South Jackson Avenue at the on-ramp north of Dobern Avenue. San Jose police said in a news release that a woman driving a 2011 Toyota sedan was traveling north on South Jackson and was turning left onto the on-ramp to southbound I-680 when she hit a man in a crosswalk.
The man was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. His name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.The SJPD traffic investigations unit is examining the fatal crash, which marks the city’s third traffic death of the year and the first involving a pedestrian.
