Driver strikes, kills pedestrian on Southeast Side, passenger in critical condition
A male pedestrian was killed and a passenger in the car of the driver involved was critically injured Thursday in a crash on the Southeast Side, Columbus police report.
Around 7 p.m., Jil-Kel Kent was driving her Buick Regal southbound on South Hamilton Road at Eastland One Drive near the former Eastland Mall when an unidentified man walked into the street and Kent struck him with her car, police said. The man was sent to the pavement, police said, and Quayana Craighead, the front seat passenger in Kent's vehicle, was partially ejected through the front windshield and suffered head injuries.
Both Craighead and the unidentified man were transported to Mt. Caramel East Hospital, where the man died from his injuries."Preliminary reports stated that Ms. Kent was driving at a high rate of speed" just before the crash, police said. No charges had been filed against Kent as of Thursday night.
