Driver opens up on rescuing Onana from Ugandan fans
Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana caused a massive stir in Uganda this week, when hundreds of fans wanted to get their eyes on the player.
Onana made headlines across the continent after he was mobbed by hundreds of Ugandan supporters following Cameroon's 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday. The match was played at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda due to Zimbabwe not having a venue that meets CAF and FIFA's stadium requirements.
The driver who came to the United star's rescue, a man named Juma Ssemazzi, has now revealed that his trip was pre-arranged, but added that he did not know that it would be Onana he was picking up. "I was picked by FUFA to drive the leader of the Cameroon advance party, Arnold Ebolo, who arrived in the country on Saturday and I have been part of them since.
"I was aware since we left the hotel with everything packed with the programme reading Namboole to the airport directly, but thought it was all about dropping him and I parked just opposite the team buses at the stadium.
