As the leader of the aggregate standings of the Cowboys Rangeland Derby, MacGillivray has proven he’s a force to be reckoned with as he’s in contention to win one of the Calgary Stampede’s marquee events.
“We’ve managed to stay penalty free so far, so hopefully we can keep that going here for the next couple nights and get into Sunday,” said MacGillivray, who was sitting in a tie for second spot with Doug Irvine in the World Professional Chuckwagon Association standings heading into the 10-day show. “We all grow up wanting to come here and just to see those stands full every night again, it’s good to see,” said MacGillivray, who narrowly missed out on qualifying for Semifinal Saturday in both 2014 and 2019. “In ’19, we missed it by half a second. “He’s been tough to beat and he’ll be tough these next three nights, too,” said MacGillivray, who’s hoping to get the chance to line up next to the four-time Rangeland Derby champion in Sunday’s final heat as well. “He’s one of those guys you never take your eye off of for sure, because he’s always there. He’s always in the hunt.”
“The way the horses have ran, it’s so good for the sponsors and for our help who help us all year and for years before this, too.”
