A driver was killed and another was seriously injured Thursday after a collision on a rural roadway north of San Marcos, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m., when a 23-year-old man lost control of the BMW sedan he was driving east on Deer Springs Road, west of Interstate 15 in the unincorporated Mesa Rock area, and crossed into the path of a Toyota pickup, said CHP Officer Hunter Gerber. The resulting collision near Mesa Rock Road left the driver of the BMW, a Fallbrook resident, mortally injured. He died before he could be taken to a hospital.Paramedics took the 61-year-old Murrieta man who had been driving the Toyota to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries, Gerber said.The incident is under investigation.
