The Durham Region International Film Festival is receiving some extra funding from the federal government.

On Tuesday, Central Counties Tourism granted $62,740 to DRIFF’s organizers, using money from the government’s Tourism Relief Fund.“We are grateful to [the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario] for funds that have enhanced DRIFF’s reach into the communities of Durham,” said DRIFF Chair Greg Murphy.

“The visitor economy creates thriving, vibrant communities across Ontario,” said Chuck Thibeault, executive director at Central Counties Tourism. “Visitors bring new money into a community and for many businesses in York, Durham and Headwaters, these additional revenues can mean the difference between staying solvent and having to shutter their doors forever.”
