Drake’s legal team has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), alleging that the company used bots, payola and other techniques to artificially boost the popularity of the song 'Not Like Us'. The lawsuit claims that such actions were taken to divert attention from Drake’s album 'Certified Lover Boy'.
The lawsuit alleges that Universal Music Group used bots, payola and other techniques to artificially inflate the popularity of Not Like Us .
In a lawsuit launched by Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC, attorneys allege that, “UMG did not rely on chance, or even ordinary business practices. It instead launched a campaign to manipulate or saturate the streaming services and airwaves.” Proving that is going to take some creative arguing. On YouTube alone Not Like Us has amassed 356 million views over two videos, one being a static image featured in the header and the other the full video we’ve embedded above.
However, Apple isn’t named as a respondent so we have to wonder whether Drake is just throwing allegations at the wall in hopes of finding something when it gets to discovery.
