The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film introduced new characters, but its manga refused to change a gruesome intro to an otherwise likable character.
With the Dragon Ball Super manga currently readapting the excellent Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, it missed its chance to change the film's worst part, which introduced a new character in a gruesome way. Last year's release of Super Hero was a smashing success with both fans and box office returns. Besides being a visual spectacle, the film's writing grew several relationships and plot lines that viewers have waited years to see develop.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Dragon Ball Super manga has been setting up the events of Super Hero and the rise of Dr. Gero's grandson, Dr. Hedo, with his own androids. Both the movie and manga have painted the character as a goofy scientist who idolizes retro-superheroes. However, his first scene in the film contains a disturbing moment where he leaves prison after a six-month stay and seemingly murders a collection of people in his former jail with a powerful explosion.
Dragon Ball Super's Manga Can Make Positive Changes To Canon The manga's adaptation provides context that the movie didn't by introducing Dr. Hedo in a light-hearted adventure. With the full context of the manga and the movie's ending, audiences clearly understand that Hedo wants to help keep the world safe from danger with his creations. However, it's difficult to side with a character who kills an unseen number of people in jail.
With only one chapter released so far covering the events of DBS: Super Hero, the manga has successfully retold the first parts of the film's story while adding more. Pan and Piccolo's relationship is more thoroughly established. Krillin also plays a more prominent role, even if it includes an embarrassing defeat for one of Dragon Ball's strongest humans.
