When Frieza comes back to life in Dragon Ball Super, he's reunited with a villain long believed to be dead, a meeting that fixes a major GT plot hole. Captain Ginyu's reappearance confirms he's still alive, having spent time in the body of a frog.
After Dragon Ball Super was launched, the series became the new official sequel to Dragon Ball Z, thereby removing Dragon Ball GT from continuity, which fixed a major plot hole created by GT.
Dragon Ball Super: Resurrection ‘F’ was originally an anime film about Frieza coming back to life after being killed by Future Trunks in Dragon Ball Z. After the film’s release, the events of the anime made it into the Dragon Ball Super manga by being referenced in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 32 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou as well as by receiving its own manga adaptation.
In Dragon Ball GT’s “Super 17 Saga,” a portal to hell opens up above the Earth and a number of past villains come flooding out, including Captain Ginyu. The thing is, based on what was established in Dragon Ball Z and confirmed in Dragon Ball Super, Captain Ginyu shouldn’t have been included as he was still alive, living his life on Earth as a Namekian frog.
The only saving grace in Dragon Ball GT’s logic in this instance is that perhaps Captain Ginyu eventually died while in his frog form on Earth and his soul was still sent to hell for the atrocities he committed in his original body. However, since fans didn’t see him die, it can only be assumed that he was still alive during the events of Dragon Ball GT, and his inclusion in Dragon Ball Super basically confirms that he would have been.
