Dr. Martens's iconic 1460 boots have remained a cult buy even 62 years after the brand's first release. Here's why the boots have remained a staple item:

have been invited to reinvent its signature 1460 boots—some adding sprightly florals all over it, or sleek silver rivets to the uppers. McKoy sees these kinds of partnerships ramping up going forward. “We’ve had a lot of new collaborations over the last six to nine month, and we’ve got a lot more coming in the next two years, which have been mapped out and planned already,” says McKoy.

McKoy also wants to incorporate new silhouettes into the current assortment. A new focus for the brand for the spring-summer season is, which have been given a lightweight construction, platform soles, and finished with its signature yellow stitching. For McKoy, experimenting with new silhouette is never about “chasing a trend,” rather finding new ways to reinvent a signature look.

All that said, McKoy does want to invest in appealing more to the next generation—many of whom are already on board, based on the current TikTok content cycle. Placing shoes on Gen-Z stars will certainly be a strategy to do so. “We’ll continue to connect with creative communities, with new, up-and-coming artists or musicians,” says McKoy. “From my perspective, that’s the way that you stay young and you keep the brand fresh.

As for what you can expect next from future Dr. Martens launches? “This coming summer, there’s going to be a lot of investment in new materials and treatments, and looking at things like [designing] loafers in our classic 1461 silhouette,” says McKoy. Mainly, though, you can expect the spunky brand spirit to continue on—there won’t be a dramatic brand makeover just yet. “I’m really passionate about continuing to respect the history, and to prepare the brand for the next 60 years,” he says.
