In an interview on Snapchat with Peter Hamby, Dr. Anthony Fauci outlined a plan that allows for sports to return by late summer, but without fans in attendance.
on Snapchat with Peter Hamby, Anthony Fauci, M.D., gave sports fans a ray of hope for the first time in a while when he expressed optimism that games could start being played again in the summer."There's a way of doing that," he said.
In the interview, Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and head of the White House's coronavirus task force, spoke about the return of Major League Baseball and Professional and College Football. He didn't, however, give an update on other sports like the National Hockey League or the National Basketball Association , which was the first to halt its season after Utah Jazz players tested positive for the coronavirus.
"Nobody comes to the stadium. Put them in big hotels, wherever you want to play. Keep them very well surveilled, have them tested every week," Fauci said."And make sure they don't wind up infecting each other or their family and just let them play the season out." Sports are being included in plans to potentially restart and re-open the American economy, as well. President Donald Trumpwith professional sports commissioners along with team owners Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, and Robert Kraft about the economy. It's not known what these talks would include, or what capacity any of these people would be serving in.
The main importance right now is the health and safety of the public, and if that means playing games without fans in the crowd, so be it. Baseball in Taiwan recently started up withFauci is among those looking forward to the return of sports. As you can imagine, someoneprobably would like some form of escape at some point."People say, 'Well, you can't play without spectators,'" he said.
