The Downtown San Diego Partnership conducts a monthly count of homeless people
More than 2,000 homeless people were counted on the streets of downtown San Diego one night in May, marking a new high in the number of individuals living without shelter in the area.
The most significant increase was in East Village, where an all-time high of 918 people were counted. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has pushed for the ordinance and held press conferences this past week arguing that it is needed as a public safety measure.
