Hugh Bonneville stars in a new comedy drama series from screenwriter Steven Moffat which looks at cancel culture
When national treasure news presenter Douglas Bellowes tells a sexist joke at a wedding, he comes face-to-face with the realities of cancel culture.
His career appears to be on the line and knowing who he can count on for support becomes as much an issue as the original faux pas. Creater Moffat said he wrote it originally as a stage play five years ago, long before Huw Edwards and Phillip Schofield left our screens.: “It doesn’t matter which period you put this story in: there will be somebody who fell from grace in TV.”
Hugh Bonneville as Douglas and Karen Gillan as Madeline in the new comedy drama series ‘Douglas is Cancelled’ Episode one of the series will premier on ITV1 on Thursday 27 June from 9pm-10pm. The successive three episodes will air weekly at the same time as the first on ITV1. All four episodes will also be available to stream on ITVX after the first episode has been broadcast.Hugh Bonneville plays middle-aged television news anchorman Douglas Bellowes, who finds himself at the centre of a furore after making an ill-advised joke at a wedding.
