Two school boards have come under fire for banning uniformed police at career day talks.
Premier Doug Ford has admonished an Ontario school board for banning uniformed police officers from taking part in career day activities, calling it a “disturbing trend that needs to stop.”
As first reported by the Toronto Sun, the Grand Erie District School Board has apologized after a parent, who is also a police officer, was“The parent was told directly that a mistake was made and that the parent was welcome in the classroom,” the board said in a statement on its website. “Opportunities like this to educate the next generation of youth and provide a positive interaction with police should be something you strive to achieve,” said the letter from president Matthew Cox.
Giroux said in a written statement that she appreciates “the many perspectives and concerns that have been raised on this matter. Our priority is to work collaboratively with the Ottawa police to develop protocols that support student learning and school safety and are responsive to the community concerns.”
