The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has asked the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to suspend the no-contact apprehension policy for public utility vehicles (PUVs), in line with the full resumption of face-to-face classes.

According to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chairperson Cheloy Garafil, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has already met with the MMDA to discuss the matter.

[Our secretary agreed to coordinate with the MMDA to ask them if they could suspend penalties for a week for PUVs that will ply the reopened routs. He agreed and said this would familiarize the drivers on their reopened routes, and to give them some leeway at least for one week.] Transport group Manila , however, is asking the LTFRB to waive penalties for vehicles that did not ply their routes in the past two years.

Valbuena said penalties for non-registration with the LTO and the LTFRB are P250 per month, and costs would be at least P20,000 for them to be registered with the agencies.
