Donnell Mbele, a 23-year-old media personality and son of actress Sonia Mbele, has been accused of rape by his 17-year-old girlfriend. The incident led to his removal from a reality TV show featuring the children of famous figures. This is not Mbele's first legal issue, as he previously faced assault charges in 2022.
23-year-old Donnell Mbele , son of actress and entrepreneur Sonia Mbele , recently posted on his Instagram after being granted bail following charges of rape. In a simple post, he captioned a photo of his neck tattooed with what looks like a crucifix. Mbele was accused by his 17-year-old girlfriend of raping her on December 14 and 15, 2024, at his residence in Morningside, Sandton. The charges stem from a complaint registered with the South Africa n Police Service (SAPS).
The couple had reportedly been at a restaurant when it was about to close. They agreed to move to a different venue, but Mbele allegedly suggested stopping at his place first to charge his phone. Upon arrival at Mbele's residence, the alleged incidents occurred. Mbele's appearance on a reality TV show featuring the children of media personalities was cut short due to the accusations. A source close to the show's production revealed that the producers felt continuing with Mbele on the show would make them appear as rape apologists. They believe it would also reflect poorly on the company to have someone charged with rape featured on the program. Only if Mbele is proven innocent will he have the opportunity to rejoin the show. This isn't Mbele's first encounter with legal issues. In 2022, he appeared in court after being accused of physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Reokeditswe Makete. Following that incident, Sonia Mbele sent her son to rehab for professional help. She stated that she was shocked by the allegations, as Mbele and his girlfriend had seemed very close and in love.
