Driving to Tahoe? Here's when Waze, Caltrans and tourism officials suggest leaving.
The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority advises folks from the Bay Area to consider visiting midweek if they have the chance.
“Friday traffic from the City over the Bay Bridge typically starts around noon or 1 p.m.,” Chaplin added, “and congestion along Interstate 80 is usually apparent along the drive towards Sacramento. If arrival in the South Shore along US Hwy 50 is around 4-5 p.m., be prepared for slowing below speed limits as you enter the basin and move east towards the state line.”
