Home could be built on the site
Dogwalkers have expressed their hope a Nottinghamshire council will keep its promise to re-invest money into a nature reserve if it decides to sell land for new homes. Gedling Borough Council had consulted with residents over selling land off Killisick Lane, Arnold, in August last year, after which it halted the plans.
"It is not just like this is just about money for the council either, it is necessary to build more homes and everyone knows that. We have to be grateful for what we have - we will still have land for walking the dogs left and some of the money being put into the nature reserve from the sale is a positive."
Dave Jackson, 57, who was walking his dog Dexter on one of the fields the council is considering selling, said the area was "heaven" and feared any potential housing development's impact on wildlife, but accepted "progress" also had to be made. "I understand people need places to live but it would be a shame to lose such wildlife - we have deer here and birds of prey," Mr Jackson said.
Avid nature watcher Tony Clarke said he would be "heartbroken" by the loss of wildlife, but conceded the land sale was possibly one of the only options open to the council. "I'm a keen nature photographer and I think this area is wonderful - you can see eight different types of butterfly in an hour-long walk. But I also know that is possibly the bias of a nature lover.
