Ohio State football has discovered a new level of cornerbacks depth not experience since at least 2019.
cornerback Denzel Burke’s rise to become one of the best in the Big Ten and beyond began with being pressed into action as a true freshman.
Jermaine Mathews played a career-high 47 snaps against Penn State. Reminiscent of Burke’s freshman season-opening debut against Minnesota, he looked like a veteran, contributing three tackles and a pass breakup. “So he did step up in a big way, and he has made a lot of progress from when he came in, but that’s part of being a freshman. It’s part of the football part. The other part is just, overall, the maturation of young man.”
