Starter Bobby Miller gave up three runs in the first inning and reliever Yency Almonte three more in the seventh. The Dodgers’ offense rallied each time but came up just short.

LOS ANGELES – There doesn’t seem to be a check the Dodgers’ pitchers can write that the offense won’t at least try to cash.

Three of the first four batters Miller faced had extra-base hits — highlighted by a leadoff triple from Elly De La Cruz who sprinted from home to third in 10.84 seconds. The Reds hit for the cycle in the first five batters of the game, taking a 3-0 lead. But Miller gave up just two more hits in five innings.

J.D. Martinez drove in one run with an RBI double in the first inning. But Chris Taylor was thrown out trying to stretch a bloop single into a double in the second inning and was caught between third base and home to end the fourth inning. Miguel Rojas singled in one run and rounded first base aggressively, prompting the Reds to get him into a rundown and draw Taylor down the line from third.
