Russell T DaviesThe returning showrunner, who was at the helm when the sci-fi favourite came back to the BBC in 2005, is once again in charge as the series enters a new era and Whovians have plenty of reasons to be excited about its futureRussell admitted he often had ‘vast envy’ for the way Star Trek transformed itself ‘from an old archive show into something fantastic’ and he has big ideas for the way Doctor Who can grow.
‘I thought the streaming platforms are ready, the spin-offs are ready; I always believed in spin-offs when I was there. I did Torchwood as a spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures as a spin-off. However, now that looks set to change with a bigger budget and thus more freedom to tell more stories.
