The Doctor’s biology hints at their real origin.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Doctor Who’s history has been changed with the revelation of the Timeless Child, but the Doctor’s biology could explain the mystery of the Timeless Child’s home planet. Jodie Whittaker’s era became defined by the revelation that the Doctor was not from Gallifrey but was found by a Gallifreyan and raised as one.

Doctor Who is returning with its 60th Anniversary specials, which will see David Tennant playing the 14th Doctor and passing the baton to Ncuti Gatwa. Russell T Davies is back as showrunner, and Doctor Who season 14 will properly introduce Gatwa’s 15th Doctor, along with new companion Ruby Sunday . With Doctor Who’s stories changing hands once again, it is expected that Davies will ignore — and potentially undo — the Timeless Child retcon, especially with his focus on Classic Who.

Time Lord Physiology May Hint At The Timeless Child's Native Universe The Timeless Child became the “base genetic code” for the entire Time Lord race, hence why the Doctor has the same anatomy as Gallifreyans despite not being one. It has always been assumed that the Doctor's anatomical features are unique to Gallifrey, but the Timeless Child development means the Doctor’s biology is specific to the Timeless Child’s planet.

Doctor Who's Time Lord has two hearts and is able to survive with only one. A lower body temperature also allows Time Lords to get by in extreme temperatures. They have an unusually high resistance to radiation and a respiratory bypass system, so they can survive without oxygen for a period of time. The most standout feature is regeneration, enabling a Time Lord to regenerate and repair their body to survive fatal situations.

The Timeless Child retcon has also caused the Doctor to lose part of their identity. Since Doctor Who’s inception, one of the Doctor’s defining features has been their tormented past with their home, Gallifrey. Doctor Who needs to reveal the Timeless Child’s true planet to complete this identity again. Revealing the mystery planet will help understand the Doctor’s biological limits so the Doctor doesn't disconnect too much from humans.
