Benedict Cumberbatch opened up about the 'tough' reshoots on DoctorStrange sequel Multiverse of Madness. 'I’ll be honest with you. It’s had quite a journey, this film.'
Benedict Cumberbatch opened up about how reshoots for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have been “tough for everyone.” After the events of last year’s box-office giant Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the concept of the multiverse blown wide open, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to focus on the subsequent fallout.
Given the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with a major schedule reshuffle from Marvel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has not had an easy road throughout its production. Initially slated for release in May 2021, the highly-anticipated sequel will now hit theatres in just under two months, with Cumberbatch recently revealing that the film is still currently undergoing reshoots in LA.
It’s been tough. I’ll be honest with you. It’s had quite a journey, this film. But not in a kind of poor me way, just like the nature of where we’re at. To try and make a massive film like that under the constrictions of a pandemic and the delays that have ensued, partly because of The Power of the Dog, but also because of everything that was lined up and had to be pushed back from Marvel. It’s been tough for everyone. Also, incredibly enjoyable and no less enjoyable than the first one.
Earlier on in the interview, Cumberbatch also stated that"carrying a Marvel film is pretty hefty stuff" and involves an"utterly different set of muscles," when discussing the idea of comparing his previous roles. The star also previously opened up about how Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness acts as a journey of self discovery for his character, going on to say audiences will witness some"unexpected conclusions.
Given the expected scope of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the fact it is still in the process of reshoots, despite having begun filming back in November 2020, it's certainly understandable that the process has been rather tough on Cumberbatch and those involved. Cumberbatch's comments are likely to fuel the already high levels of anticipation that surround this film, as it's clear that an immense amount of hard work has been contributed by both the cast and crew.
