If you regularly get your nails done, doctors and health experts are urging you to be mindful of the possible health risks that come with it

Frequent gel manicure fans are being warned of potential health hazards, including the risk of cancer. This warning follows a recent study that found the radiation from ultraviolet nail polish dryers could be damaging.

With a following of 25k on the social media platform, Dr Desai stated: "Can gel manicures increase your risk of cancer? The answer is yes." She concluded with a cautionary note for those who regularly indulge in gel manicures. "So basically skin cancer underneath your nails. Be very mindful if you're regularly getting gel manicures," she said.

Research conducted in 2014, published in the JAMA Dermatology journal, suggested that bi-weekly gel manicures probably don't significantly increase the risk of skin cancer due to associated UVA exposure. The study further reassured: "Even with numerous exposures, the risk for carcinogenesis remains small."
