Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has explained the type of players that should dominate the Amakhosi side as coach Arthur Zwane rebuilds the squad to mount a challenge for titles. SLSiya Read more:
Khumalo, who is among the football greats in South Africa is of the view that if Amakhosi takes the route of building and developing players in the first team, the fans will wait a bit longer before they can taste success.
According to the Bafana Bafana great, Chiefs should be dominated by top-quality performances and players who are ready to make the cut.“I saw a poster on the stands when Chiefs lost to Sundowns, with a message along the lines of, “We are in a rebuilding phase, so please be patient”, and that caught my attention. Personally, when it comes to Kaizer Chiefs, there is no building phase because results are an immediate demand,” said Khumalo in his latest Soccer Laduma column.
“I’m not taking anything from other teams because they are also looking for points, but the teams I have mentioned have development teams to build. In the elite league, you bring players that are ready to deliver and there’s no way you can still be building when you get there. That would be like throwing a youngster on the field and saying you’re building him.
The Soweto giants registered their second win of the new league campaign with a 1-0 win over Richards Bay on Saturday evening in Durban. To read Doc’s full column, check out this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, edition 1287, available in stores now!
