The CDC recommends people over 50 and those with compromised immune systems get a second booster shot.

It shows that “antibody levels start to wane,” said Stephanie Silvera, an infectious disease expert and professor at Montclair State University. “And so having a second booster increases those antibody levels back to essentially, or close to, where they were. However, “I don’t think it’s as strong of a recommendation as booster number one — because I think that we’re still seeing people who have full vaccination, including one booster, are still doing really well,” he added. “So that’s to me why there was a lot of question of how was this really going to come out?Many New Jersey residents remain unvaccinated. Omicron — and potentially stealth omicron, which is even more transmissible — puts them especially at risk.
In a statement Tuesday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the booster is important for those 65 and older, and those 50 and older who might be at higher risk. But it is most critical for those at higher risk. The shot is also important for those who had received Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine after a“They really need an mRNA booster,” Cennimo said of those who received the J&J vaccine.Not every expert thinks those in good health need a fourth vaccine dose.
