Princess Caroline of Monaco, also referred to as Caroline, Princess of Hanover, had a good month. In January, Grace Kelly’s first child celebrated her 60th birthday. But while the oldest daughter of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III of Monaco has long since been an international style star, she’s also lived a remarkable life.
Born in 1957, Caroline grew up in the small Mediterranean nation known for its cars, casinos, and overall glamour. She enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris to study philosophy, and in 1978, married her first husband, Philippe Junot. The union lasted only a couple of years, and in 1983 Caroline married Stefano Casiraghi. The couple had three children together—Andrea, Charlotte, and Pierre—and were together until Casiraghi’s death in 1990.
The Hanoverians no longer have a state, but the royal line does have strong ties to the British monarchy.was the last of Britain’s House of Hanover, but the house only changed to what later became known as the House of Windsor because her children carried the name of her husband, Prince Albert.
