It’s another case of an advancement in technology helping to solve a decades-old cold case.
The decades-old murder of a 26-year-old Pennsylvania mother of three was recently solved thanks to DNA evidence found on a letter sent to a local newspaper years ago that recounted the details of the crime., Anna Kane’s body was found along Ontelaunee Trail in Perry Township, Berks County, on Oct. 23, 1988.
“This led investigators to believe that whoever wrote the letter had committed the homicide,” Womer said. The letter’s saliva-sealed envelope was tested for DNA, which matched the DNA profile found on Kane’s clothing, This year, genetic genealogy testing from the DNA profile was done by Parabon NanoLabs in Virginia and the results determined that a possible suspect was Scott Grim. Grim died in 2018 of natural causes at the age of 58 and would’ve been 26 when he killed Kane.
Parabon has helped solve a number of cold cases recently, including 1975 stabbing death of a Lancaster County woman.
