PSNI objects to Salthill match in case he meets 'politically like minded people there'

A well known dissident republican has been granted court permission to attend a Derry GAA game in the Republic as well as a Bryan Adams gig in Belfast.

A detective sergeant said the PSNI had no objection to the Belfast bail variation application as long as Mellon provided proof that he’d purchased a ticket for the concert and that he’d booked and paid for overnight hotel accommodation. However the officer objected to the applicant attending the GAA match in Galway on the basis that the applicant “might meet politically like minded people there”.

Mr McElholm then asked if the applicant had travelled to Dublin last week to meet Fianna Fail TD Eamon O’Cuiv after he’d granted a bail variation for that meeting.
