A proposed $1.9 billion theme park expansion plan would allow Disneyland to build as many as four thematic icons towering 300 feet in the air — nearly four times the height of Sleeping Beauty Castle and more than 100 feet taller than anything else at the Anaheim theme park.
The DisneylandForward proposal seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort. The Anaheim City Council is set to vote on the DisneylandForward proposal on April 16.Under current city guidelines, Disney can build one thematic element at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure that surpasses the existing 250-foot-tall height ceiling with a maximum height of 300 feet.
Thematic icons have been part of the existing approvals for decades and the Disneyland resort has no immediate plans to construct new thematic icons, according to Disneyland officials. Under the DisneylandForward plan, Disney would be permitted to build a single 200-foot-tall thematic element at the proposed Southeast Entertainment District on the current Toy Story parking lot. Height limits would be lower near homes to the south and east of the property.
