Disney CEO, Bob Iger, has spoken out on the box office underperformance experienced by some recent Pixar releases. Pixar's most recent movie, Elemental, opened to a very disappointing $29.6 million last month, though it has made up for the slow opening weekend with some strongholds in subsequent weeks.
While interviewing with CNBC's Squawk Box , Iger discussed the factors he thinks have had the most impact on Pixar's recent box office setbacks. Check out the quote below: There were three Pixar releases in a row that went direct to streaming, in part because of — mostly because of COVID,” he said. “And I think that may have created an expectation in the audience that they’re going to eventually be on streaming and probably quickly, and there wasn’t an urgency. And then I think there was some, I think you’d have to agree that there was some creative misses, as well.
