The leadership of the newly formed union representing some members of the South African Police Service is not ruling out the likelihood of a strike.

There could be a lack of resources at the South African Police Service on Monday, as thousands of officers are threatening to embark on an illegal strike. The group is unhappy about recent promotions and claims that many experienced officers are being overlooked for promotion.These are just some of the issues raised by members of the South African Police service at a mass meeting.The union claims it's written to the minister, deputy minister and national police commissioner, but is yet to receive a response.National Freedom Party MP Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam, who's also a portfolio police committee member, attended the meeting.

He says the issues raised will be placed on the committee's agenda and might result in the summoning of police minister Bheki Cele.
