students to broaden awareness of Alzheimer’s disease in Latino communities will be screened, followed by a panel of experts, on Tuesday at the North East Community Center.
“This is my community,” said Luis D. Medina, an assistant professor of psychology at UH and director of ECHAR, the Engaging Communities of Hispanics/Latinos for Aging Research Network. “Alzheimer’s disease is both a professional aspect of my life as well personal.”Spanish-language station Radio Jornalera launches as resource for migrant workers
The ECHAR Network partnered with UH’s Valenti School of Communication to launch a screenwriting contest to get the project started. The screening will also include a bilingual panel discussion featuring Medina and his research associates. Carmen Miranda, the show’s script supervisor, said she learned that topics such as Alzheimer’s are often avoided within the Latino community, and she hopes “Recuerdos de Mi Abuelo” encourages more discussion about the disease.Census changes could be complicated, but worth it, experts say
