‘Disappointed’ Knights want to host Magic Round after 2023 snubbing | proshenks
The Tigers are the only team to take a home game to New Zealand.The Dolphins will get 10 free-to-air games on Nine, Brisbane will have 13.Newcastle Knights CEO Philip Gardner says the NRL should consider awarding Magic Round hosting rights to the club in the future after it was overlooked for the event in 2023.
Gardner even suggested that, if there was an opportunity for other cities to bid for Magic Round in the future, the Hunter region warranted consideration.“The economics of that make it very difficult because it’s a bidding process. You would need the support of the NSW Government to do that, but certainly in Newcastle, at McDonald Jones Stadium, it would be a sellout all of the time.The Knights will miss out on Magic Round.
“It’s disappointing for the fans because the fans love a good trip and getting up to Brisbane is a good trip. We’re disappointed, but we know the factors involved in it.”facing former club Brisbane for the first time in Magic Round.
