The Ekurhuleni Council sitting to vote on the mayor’s fate has ended abruptly as officials disagree on processes. Tuesday’s proceedings were set to see the house vote on a motion of no confidence against Sivuyile Ngodwana , but this again stalled.

ActionSA previously sponsored the motion, which was endorsed by a number of parties including the Democratic Alliance (DA), Freedom Front Plus (FF+), African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), and the Patriotic Alliance (PA). The African National Congress (ANC) also supported the motion but called for an amendment that the party with the most seats can put forward a mayoral candidate. After calling for the amendment to be considered, the Speaker of Council Nthabiseng Tshivenga deferred the matter, closing the meeting
