Difficult to secure military aircraft landing spots in Sudan for evacuation: PM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it’s not easy for Canada to arrange a landing spot in Sudan to evacuate citizens by Canadian military aircraft.

Canada has been flying military aircraft into Djibouti, a country on the Horn of Africa about 1,200 km by air from the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. But flight-tracking websites have not recorded any instances of Royal Canadian Airforce planes entering Sudan itself.

One of Canada’s CC-177 Globemaster heavy lift aircraft landed in Djibouti on Saturday and then on Monday it returned to Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
