Whether it was shotgunning a beer with concertgoers, trying to soak up applause directed at his bandmate or dressing up as a singer in a third-rate country covers band , Bentley came off as a guy who has a blast onstage when he just gets to goof around.
Playing in front of a huge high-definition screen , the stage setup was otherwise relatively simple, meaning the focus was mostly on the music. Bentley himself seemed aware of this too, noting several times how great the decades-old amphitheater sounded and comparing it favorably to Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium.
A stripped-down bluegrass set, complete with an appearance by opener Molly Tuttle, gave a chance for Bentley’s band to shine. He even let band member Charlie Worsham sing lead on a cover of Garth Brooks by-way-of the Oak Ridge Boys’ “Callin’ Baton Rouge.”
