It is the second time the Hackney North MP has criticised Sir Lindsay Hoyle

Diane Abbott hit out at Sir Lindsay Hoyle for being denied the chance to ask a question at PMQs despite the session largely focusing on racist comments made against her has launched a fresh attack on Sir Lindsay Hoyle after she was denied the chance to speak during Prime Minister’s Questions earlier this week, as an ongoing race row continues to engulf Westminster.

“Stood over 40 times. Speaker claims he ran out of time. Truth is he can make PMQs go on as long as he likes,” she wrote on X.Mr Hoyle’s office previously defended the Commons Speaker, saying in a statement on Wednesday that “there was not enough time to call all members who wanted to ask a question”.

On Wednesday, only four of the MPs randomly selected in the ballot were from the Conservatives, meaning Mr Hoyle had to select other Tories to ensure the session was balanced. Labour is now facing calls to restore the whip for Ms Abbott, amid claims that an 11-month investigation into her comments has been kicked into the long grass to avoid Sir Keir Starmer having to make a decision over her future.

She told the crowd that Mr Hester’s comments about her and the ensuing outrage were “not about me, this is about the level of racism that is still in Britain. This is about the way that black women are disrespected”.over Ms Abbott’s suspension. It comes after Sir Keir said on Thursday the suspension was “an entirely different issue” from the racism storm engulfing Ms Abbott and cautioned against conflating the two matters.
