The Diamondbacks placed rookie right-hander Ryne Nelson on the injured list with a right scapula inflammation.
LOS ANGELES — The Diamondbacks placed right-hander Ryne Nelson on the 15-day injured list with right scapula inflammation, an injury that ends the rookie starter’s season after three strong starts in the majors.
“We don’t think it’s going to lead to anything,” Lovullo said. “We just feel like it’s the right time to put him on the IL, shut him down for the season, rest him up and get him back for a healthy 2023.” Like many pitchers, he struggled in Triple-A Reno but found his stride following a promotion to the majors on Sept. 5.
Josh Rojas’ ugly eighth inning on Tuesday afternoon, in which he failed to convert three chances into outs, was another instance in which the Diamondbacks third baseman has appeared to be mistake-prone in the field — and it is beginning to cut into his playing time.
