Diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg loses election deposit after dismal tally
Diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg , who hitched his bid for Parliament to the sharing of SA's mineral wealth, has fallen well short of winning a seat in the National Assembly.
The 59-year-old, who stood as an independent, won just 307 votes in the Free State and 1 115 in Gauteng, for a total of 1 422 regional votes. He received 0.04% of the vote in the Free State and 0.03% in Gauteng. The poor showing means Liebenberg will lose the R40 000 deposit he paid to stand in the elections.
