Blizzard's Rod Fergusson has confirmed that Diablo IV players can expect to see annual expansions arrive alongside the quarterly season content.
Diablo IV will receive quarterly seasonal content and annual expansions, Fergusson pointed out that"there were 11 years between Diablo 3 and Diablo IV," and that it"feels like we didn't live up to our players, our community, and what they deserve." According to Fergusson, that's something Blizzard will be"rectifying in Diablo IV with our seasons and our expansions.
We already knew Diablo IV is set to be the most supported Diablo game yet — players are currently playing on the first seasonal server: Season of the Malignant — but the release schedule and timings of the meatier expansion content were unknown. Now Fergusson has confirmed that new expansions will arrive yearly.
"When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future. So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service," Fergusson said."We’ve got plans, we have storylines that go well into the future. We’ve got plans.
It's probably a safe bet to assume that we'll likely not see an expansion arrive before 2024, but hopefully, we'll at least learn a little more before the year is done. What we can look forward to for now, though, is theMore Diablo IV stories:
