Vincent Magwenya, President Cyril Ramaphosa's spokesperson, has disputed reports of explosions in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.
Clearance has been given for the aircraft to depart amid acrimony between South African and Polish officials about the plane, its passengers and cargo. The security team was supposed to be deployed in support of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to war-torn Ukraine on Friday. Members of the SAPS task force and other special forces have been cloistered in the plane since Wednesday, when it departed Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.
The SAA crew however, under the able leadership of Captain Mpho Mamashela, have been remarkable in their commitment and service.Explosions rock Kyiv as African peace mission visits Ukraine Another Reuters correspondent in the capital saw the smoke trail of two missiles in the air. It was not clear if those missiles were fired by Russia or by Ukrainian air defences.
