Rosella Coffee and Wine Bar on Jones in San Antonio’s Midtown is not closed permanently, despite reports to the contrary

The owners of Rosella Coffee and Wine Bar on East Jones Avenue say that while the shop remains closed in the wake of January’s Omicron COVID-19 wave, they’re still paying rent and no decision has been made on whether that situation is permanentIf you’ve seen the screaming headline going around social media that Rosella Coffee and Wine Bar on East Jones Avenue in Midtown has closed permanently, there’s something you should know: Rosella says otherwise.

The San Antonio Current reported today that the coffee shop some people credit with jump-starting the city’s caffeine scene in 2014 had closed its East Jones Avenue location permanently, citing unnamed sources close to the business. But co-owner Tom Schleuning told the Express-News that while Rosella on East Jones Avenue remains closed in the wake of January’s Omicron COVID-19 wave, rent is still being payed and no decision has been made on whether that closure is permanent.

The road’s been tough for Rosella during the pandemic, no doubt. A year ago, the shop on East Jones Avenue closed temporarily, citing COVID concerns. The company permanently shut down its downtown restaurant and cocktail lounge Rosella at the Rand at the height of the pandemic and shuttered its location at the San Antonio Botanical Garden before that.
