Caitlin Clark declares for 2024 WNBA Draft
JON JOHNSON On a rainy night at Rip Hewes Stadium, the “heads” up play by Vestavia Hills was the difference in a 4-0 win over Dothan High.
“Definitely by design,” Dothan coach Joe Nelson said of the slate. “That’s the way we wanted to build the schedule this year. Not much longer after that, Dothan got a break when Vestavia’s Blair Steele received his second yellow card of the night, thus was given an automatic red card and ejected from the game.
“It is frustrating when you hold possession for most of the game and then three flicks in the back of the net. We’re definitely not satisfied with this result, but I don’t think we played bad and this helped us moving forward.”“I mean it’s tough when you’re dealing with a guy that’s bigger than our whole team,” Nelson said. “But I mean, give it up for them … that was their strategy and they did it well.
