Britain mulls temporarily allowing emergency visas for European lorry drivers to come to the UK

The past week’s fuel and food shortages have made the UK the laughing stock of Europe, as Boris Johnson’s government refuses to acknowledge the role of Brexit in denting labour supply.

Besieged by a shortage of heavy-duty vehicle drivers and agricultural workers vegetables are rotting in fields, and where harvests have been possible it has been onerous to get them to stores with no-one to drive them. Also, about 120,000 pigs will have to be culled as a shortage of drivers and abattoir workers means they cannot be properly slaughtered for human consumption...
