Desire for local sports leads Summerside teacher to create free basketball program for students | SaltWire

Today, 202 students from each of the elementary schools in the Three Oaks family of schools meet on the court every week. The boys meet one day after school and the girls another.

She was interested in playing basketball, but pre-existing community programming conflicted with her hockey schedule.

“I wouldn’t be able to do it if I didn’t have the support of all the principals,” said McGreevy. “Especially Elm Street, supported it right from day one, and Miscouche.” Although her youngest son is heading to junior high next year, McGreevy intends to stay involved with the program. This year, to Harvey’s surprise, Braeden swapped out a hockey puck for a basketball and fully committed to the program.
